Mom's Present

Mom got a rifle from Dad for Xmas.  It was a long story, but Papa Rick had a lot to do with it.  Something about you only get a chance at a rifle like this so many times in your life.  In any case, it is the same caliber (.270) that Mom borrowed from Papa Rick last year to get her antelope and mule deer.

For those of you that are interested, it is a Remington 700 BDL .270 Winchester Short Magnum with a stainless fluted barrel, a Bell and Carlson synthetic stock and a Leuopold VX-3, 4.5-14 scope.  Hopefully it is not all show and no go as Grandpa likes to think of nice things :-)

Dad thinks Mom should be able to hunt everything from rock chucks to elk out to 600 yards as soon as Papa Rick helps him work up a handload for it.  Of course, .270 WSM shells are not easy to find, so it looks like it will be all handloads.  Look out deer in the front yard!

As an extra bonus, Mom also got an IDFG sportsman's package.  She's now the proud owner of a deer, elk, wolf, bear, turkey, and mountain lion tags - wow, Mom, you are special!

Don't worry, Santa got Mom some real presents!
