Dad and Emy went fishing last weekend and caught a salmon at noon! Dad caught one early in the morning, too, while we were still sleeping...... The hatchery is really tight on broodstock, so you can only keep the Jack salmon. Those are male salmon that return one year early from the ocean as juveniles instead of adults. The life-cycle of the jacks ensures that gene-flow occurs across generations. Fortunately, the hatchery only needs about 5% jacks in the broodstock, so anglers can keep 4 a day even though the fishing for adult salmon had to be closed.
